The Greatest Example of Self-Sacrifice

The second word in the S portion of our SERVE Model of leadership is Sacrificing:  Self-Sacrificing Servant.  The word sacrifice is defined as the giving-up or surrender of something desirable on behalf of a higher purpose or greater good.  Thus, leaders sacrifice themselves for a higher purpose or greater good.

The greatest example of self-sacrifice this world has ever seen is Jesus Christ.  Hebrews 9:27-28 (NIV) says, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sin of the people…”  He gave His own life on behalf of a higher purpose – saving you and me from sin.

Christ-following leaders understand that leadership requires self-sacrifice.  Leaders at GNG give of their time, talent, energy and treasure for the higher purpose set forth in our Purpose Statement:

GNG Exists: To Develop Seekers Into Fully Functioning Followers Of Christ.

That is our higher purpose – our greater good.  And leaders also sacrifice their personal preferences, their likes and dislikes, and their egos for the achievement of that purpose.  “It’s not about me” is a phrase that captures the heart of every great GNG leader.  It’s always about the higher purpose.  Every decision made, every problem solved, every ministry created or terminated, every dollar spent is done in pursuit of the higher purpose.

The Only Thing Limiting GNG’s Future Is The Number Of Leaders We Can Develop.
