5. What: Hiking 3 miles – Rocky Fork River – Wildflowers

When: Saturday April 20 at 10am to about noon
What: 3-mile hike
Where: Millers Nature Sanctuary. Upload your wildflower identifiers as this site is known for spring flowers.

The gorge portion of this preserve (24.7 acres) was first dedicated in 1982 as a gift from its owners, Eugene and Henrietta Miller. In 1986, the remaining portion of the property (61.1 acres), consisting of forest and abandoned farm land, was purchased from the Millers. Miller Nature Sanctuary consists of 85.8 acres of calcareous cliff community, hardwood forest and old field habitats. Also found here are unusual geological formations, such as natural arches and waterfalls. Rocky Fork Gorge contains some of the best spring wildflower areas to be found in southern Ohio. More than two miles of hiking trails are here for the visitor to explore.

On Sunday evening, April 21st, from 5-7pm, GNG will be hosting a special service called Pizza, Prayer, and Praise. This will be a time of corporate worship and prayer, conducted in-the-round in the GNG atrium. It will be followed by a time of eating and community around some pizza! This service is for the whole family, so no childcare will be provided. We encourage you to bring your children to participate in the times of prayer and worship.

NOTE: this is the rain date for April 20th – If rained out this hike is moved back to Miller’s Nature Sanctuay – if we are not rained out then we will proceed to hiking Barret’s Rim Trail. This is because I do not want you to miss the wildflower display at Millers!

Time: 1:30 to 3pm

Place: Barret’s Rim Trail. Due to a very small parking lot we will carpool from the Museum parking lot located at 7660 Cave Rd, Bainbridge. Park in the cement lot by the exit sign! Which is also the trailhead parking for Barrier Ridge trail – you will see the sign. We will take two cars to Barret’s Rims Trailhead 1/2 mile up the road.

Approximate Length of Time Involved: 1.5 hours. 2 miles

Degree of Difficulty: The terrain is mostly flat, slightly sloping incline/decline with moderate difficulty for a steep slope and a staircase.

Miscellaneous: Time of devotion will be shared in the parking lot before the hike. Cameras recommended! Each member should bring their own water and a snack. Restrooms provided at the museum – should the need arise we use the leave no trace principle. (which means you carry your tissue back out with you)
